8. Don’t Shut Me Down by ABBA
First entered the charts: 16th September 2021
Peaked at: #9
I think it’s safe to say that every music fan in Britain was ecstatic at the return of ABBA this year. This vibrant tune still has the timeless, catchy sound that ’SOS’ or ’Waterloo’ did 40 years ago, giving us a blast from the past.

Just as we thought we couldn’t get enough of Folklore, Taylor decided to release another surprise Indie-folk album in December last year. Having ’Willow’ as the first single of the album was a great way to start this era, introducing the guitar-centric sound that surrounded each song.

We already knew that after Doja Cat’s disco-pop sensation ’Say so’, she wouldn’t fail to impress, but her next massive hit ’Kiss me more’ left us speechless. The aesthetically-pleasing video, the soothing vocals, the Sza feature – everything was perfect about this song.
3. Summer 91 (looking back) by Noizu
First entered the charts: 25th March 2021
Peaked at: #27
There have been many EDM hits on this list, but Summer 91 has to be my favourite. Noizu, a Los Angeles based artist, embraces a 90s atmosphere through repeated upbeat instrumentals and nostalgic lyrics.
2. Golden by Harry Styles
First entered the charts: 5th November 2020
Peaked at: #26
Whilst Fine Line was one of the biggest albums of 2020, there is no doubt that Golden was slept on. While it’s musical neighbours Watermelon Sugar and Adore you reached the top 20, Golden only grabbed the 26th spot. In spite of this, Golden is undeniably a fan favourite, purely for it’s magical sound and figurative lyrics.
