Alone – Fickle Friends

Technically Alone was released back in October 13th 2021 by Indie Pop sensation Fickle Friends on an EP of the same name, but this week the band announced the arrival of their new album Are We Gonna Be Alright? and I had to choose my favourite track from it for this article. In an interview, lead singer Natassja Shiner claimed the euphoric tune was ‘about wanting to trap all of your friends in your house and throw a big party and never let them leave.’

Climatic French music act QuinzeQuinze dropped their first track of the year on Friday; a track that creates a sense of unconditional love through lyrics ’I’ll go further for you.’ The soothing instrumentals put the spotlight on the enthralling vocals, complimenting each other nicely.

Moonset – YUKIKA, Kim Mi Jeong

Japanese K-Pop artist YUKIKA paired up with Korean singer Kim Mi Jeong to create an emotive blues melody that incorporates a city pop sound alongside repeated phrases like Don’t wait just call me baby and Call me baby call me. All these musical factors assimilated into one song create a galactic atmosphere, mirroring the cover art and title of the song.

Wildfire – Against The Current

This Monday New York pop-rock band Against The Current released their first single of the year Wildfire after their 2021 album success of fever. This chart worthy track consists of strong, flexible vocals accompanied by a drum-based instrumental and metaphorical, imagery-filled lyrics such as ‘If you’re ready we can speak it up’ and ’I keep feeling the flames, ’bout to boil my blood’.

Rosewood – Bonobo

Musically established solo DJ Simon Green, more famously known as Bonobo, released his album Fragments on Friday 14th, displaying fantastic instrumentals especially in popular track Rosewood. These electronic loops are encompassed by soothing vocals that whisper ’I won’t leave you, not this time’ and ’Your mind has set me free.’
