Covers – Georgie Levien

A specialist in the acoustic indie folk genre, Georgie Leviens has not long released her single ‘Covers’, allowing softly flowing vocals to dominate the tone. But it is the powerful opening line ‘I had this fire in my lungs’ that sets the ultimate mood.

Rebel – Lucy Gallant

Dramatic vocals right from the start. Pop but not as you know it, mixing up the instrumental with glittering effects and adding some political ideology to the lyrics. Lucy knows how to capture her audience musically, but let’s not forget the fact that she put together a whole music video to tell the story.

Villain – DB Jones

Truly commercial pop rock song with its own quirks. Vocals are versatile enough to guide the melody however do not distract from the great flow of the instrumental. DB Jones have that likeable indie group nature, but when you actually deeply listen to their music, you realise they are so much more than that.

Y.A.N.T.O – Submission

Not sure you can really put a genre on this song, but you can’t deny the upbeat bliss of it. You never quite know what is coming next with such tension building vocals, but that is what makes it such a fun listen.

The Train Station – Eydi Horsdal

Delicate vocals, male and female, that intertwine to create an acoustic stripped back bliss. The tune is subtle but sails along nicely, fitting in pleasantly in the midst of the album.

Bad Blood – Trousdale

Trios are a very controversial matter, inside and outside of the music world. Trousedale, however, make it work between the three of them. ‘Bad Blood’ showcases the best of their harmonies and soaring melodies.

Colourblind – Simula, Embr

With electronic artist Simula, vocals act as an effect, with the wild sounds of the instrumental taking the spotlight.

Temples – Ben Fairey

Sleek sounds welcome the listener, almost robotic vocals which guide the electronic melody. Singer-songwriter Ben Fairey has lots to offer on his latest album ‘FutureNature’, and the title itself sums up its atmosphere pretty well.

what we never had – Dani Vong

‘what we never had’ has to be my favourite off of Dani Vong’s latest album ‘GOOD GRIEF!’. Vong has the lyrical ability to make any of her songs relatable, but lines like ‘finally changed your text tone back to default’ shows how her music is perfect for a modern 2023 audience.

Stop the bleeding – Baby Rose

Everyone has a singing voice unique to them, but it’s not often you hear a voice as unique as Baby Rose’s. ‘Stop The Bleeding’ brings out all of her rich tones at once through a powerful tune that builds and builds momentum right until the very end.

Ribbons – Ryan Beatty

Singer-songwriter and producer Ryan Beatty writes his songs like poetry, and as he sings, these vocals convey their meaning beautifully. The whole of ‘Ribbons’ is a metaphor for the abstractions of life, with lyrics like ‘And the night bleeds into Sunday morning’ hitting the listeners the hardest.

Coogie – Dijon

Dijon has his own style that no one can imitate. He can hook listeners in with just his vocals, but when you take a deep listen to the likes of ‘Coogie’, his latest single, you realise the lyrics and intensity of the instrumental add this musical connection his fans immediately fall for.
